STT

Also known as: speech-to-text, ASR

Speech-to-Text — alternative name for Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), used interchangeably in most contexts.

STT (Speech-to-Text) and ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) refer to the same technology. STT is the more product-marketing-friendly term; ASR is the more technical-research-friendly term. Vendor APIs use both — Google uses 'Speech-to-Text' as its product name, AWS uses 'Transcribe', Azure uses 'Speech to Text'.

In live captioning contexts, STT is the underlying capability that turns the speaker's voice into the text the audience reads.
