Why we built it

Captioning a live event has historically required dedicated staff, on-site hardware, and per-hour budgets that scaled with the size of the program. Most event teams responded the way budgets demand: caption the keynote, skip everything else. That's how a 4-track conference ends up with one captioned session out of forty.

The audiences captions exist for — late-deafened attendees, hard-of-hearing attendees, non-native-language attendees, attendees in noisy or shared environments — get served by the keynote and abandoned by the rest of the program. We started EventRecast to make captioning the default everywhere, not the exception in one place.

What we ship

A real-time captioning platform that runs in any browser, on any device. Sub-three-second latency. Translation across the major languages used at international events. AI summaries and searchable transcripts that turn each session into an asset that lives long past the live moment. Engagement analytics that tell event organizers what actually landed.

The product is opinionated about a few things. Captions belong on the audience's device, not the speaker's screen — so accessibility decisions stay with the attendee. Transcripts belong at a stable URL, so they can be searched, shared, and indexed. Translation belongs in the same pipeline as captions, not bolted on after the fact.

Who we're for

Conference organizers, webinar teams, educators, accessibility coordinators, and conference platforms that want captioning handled without building a captioning team. The audience is wide because the underlying problem is wide — almost every live event has the same gap between the audio that's spoken and the audience that needs to read along.
