Hybrid event
An event with both in-person and remote attendees sharing the same speakers and program.
Hybrid events combine in-room and remote audiences. The challenge for event organizers is producing a single experience that serves both — captions on the speaker's audio, distribution to in-room and remote attendees through the same channel, Q&A handling that works for both groups.
Per-device captioning (each attendee opens a viewer URL on their phone or laptop) is the standard pattern for hybrid events. It collapses the in-room/remote experience into a shared captioned feed regardless of where attendees are located.
Hybrid events have the hardest captioning logistics of any format because audio quality degrades when captured from venue AV mixes, and audience Q&A from remote attendees needs to be captured into the captioned record alongside in-room questions.
